A Cupcake a Day Keeps the Doctor Away
When you think of the food in Barcelona you’ll probably visualise the usual savory dishes, such as Paella, hams, cheeses, olives, bread, fresh fish and tortillas. But what if, like us, you’re more of a sweet-toothed diner and are more interested in the deserts on offer. We have to admit that here at Barcelona Hen Weekend, many a time, our eyes have automatically skipped over the first two courses on a menu to check out what’s really important, the pudding!
So whilst we have a couple of favourite Catalan puddings that always go down a storm, there’s really nothing like a little sugary taste of home to make us feel sweetly satisfied.
Luckily for us, Barcelona’s finally picked up on the cupcake craze that was taking NYC and the UK by storm and now more and more colourful cupcake shops are popping up to still our creamy frosting cravings. Here are our favourites, our cream of the crop, our ‘creme de la creme’…
Cup and Cake
Based in a charming little square on fashionable Enric Granados is ‘Cup and Cake’. This stylish cafe is full of character and the terrace is a little haven as it is shared with a flower shop next door so the scent of coffee, cakes and flowers is simply wonderful. They change their range of cupcakes every day but their staple splendors are the oreo cupcakes and the little carrot cakes.

Lolita Bakery
Lolita was one of the first cupcake shops in Barcelona and the pastel blue and white design of the shop is as sweet as their cakes. This is actually a take-away bakery as there is no seating area so this is great option for treating friends, be it their birthday or be it just because you’re a great pal. It’s also a sure-fire way of being the most popular guest at a dinner party if you come bearing that little blue and white bag full of the best cakes in town.

Florentine Cupcakes & Cookies
Not only does this little gem offer a staggering range of cupcakes but it also bakes delicious cookies, which are actually a bit of a rarity in Barcelona. So this is our ‘two-birds-one-stone’ option, as there is something there for every sweet-toothed craving.
